Single-mode and Multimode OTDRs

C850 Compact QUAD OTDR with QUAD OLS and OPM
The Noyes C850 from AFL Telecommunications is a full-featured QUAD OTDR in a compact case with a large transflective touch screen display suitable for both indoor and outdoor operation. The C850 offers built-in auto test functionality when used with another C850 or the C840 QUAD Certification Tester. The C850 features MM and SM OTDR capabilities, both single-mode and multimode Optical Light Sources (OLS), Visual Fault Locator (VFL, 650 nm), and an Optical Power Meter (OPM). As an OTDR, the C850 supports Full Auto, Expert (manual) and Real-Time test modes, simultaneous dual and single wavelength testing, and Event and Pass/Fail analysis based on default or user-defined thresholds.

Two C850s or a C840 Tester and C850 can be used together to perform Tier 1 dual wavelength MM (850/1300 nm) and SM (1310/1550 nm) auto tests of one or two fibers in one or both directions; and measure both loss and length of the fibers and compare to industry standards (TIA/ISO/EN), applications and user-defined thresholds values to certify the fibers. The user may test two fibers at two wavelengths bi-directionally and store the results into the main unit. Featuring rich file naming, the Job setup wizard allows the user to define both the cable and fiber end locations, creating easily identifiable trace files, which are managed into Job and Cable folders.

Features:
22 dB (MM), 26 dB (SM) dynamic range (OTDR)
LED 850/1300 nm and Laser 1310/1550 nm sources (OLS)
Integrated OPM and VFL (650 nm)
Transflective (indoor/outdoor) touch screen display
Tool-free, switchable adapters
Rechargeable Li-Ion battery (> 8 hours) or AC power
USB host and function ports
Bellcore (GR-196) .SOR file format
Internal (1000s test results) and USB storage
Wave ID detect if used with Noyes equipment with this capability
Windows® compatible software

Applications:
Tier 1 and 2 testing of premise networks

TEST MODES: OTDR, Auto Test, OLS and OPM
Mode

Description
Full Auto
OTDR

This is the recommended mode for users who are not familiar with OTDR operation. In the Full Auto mode, OTDR parameters such as Range, Pulse Width, and Averaging Time are set automatically. Tests are done at two wavelengths and always include an Event Table and Summary Page. Pass/Fail Thresholds are set to default=[On] with an option to be turned off (values cannot be changed).

Note: in the Expert mode, the Events Menu contains Event Threshold and Pass/Fail Threshold Settings allowing the user to change these settings as well as turn them on or off.

Real-Time
OTDR

This is the best mode for real-time troubleshooting. Note that the Wavelength setting can only be set to individual wavelengths. The Range, Pulse Width, and Filter parameters are set by the user.
Expert
OTDR

This mode is available for experienced users. It provides the most setup flexibility. Users can set Range, Pulse Width, and Averaging Time manually (Setup = Manual) or automatically (Setup = Auto Once or Setup = Auto). Users can either enable the event table (Events = Auto) or disable the event table (Events = Off).

Note: in the Expert mode, the Events Menu contains Event Threshold and Pass/Fail Threshold Settings allowing the user to change these settings and turn them on or off.

Auto Test

Used to perform certification optical loss tests on pairs of fibers in one or two directions. Test to TIA, ISO, EN cabling standards, User defined rules and application standards.

OLS

Used with an Optical Power Meter (OPM) to perform insertion loss measurements on fiber optic links.

OPM

This mode is available to perform Optical Power Meter measurements.
UTILITY MODES: RESULTS, SETTINGS, JOB, LAST RESULTS
Results

This mode provides the file manager functions to handle the results of OTDR, Auto Test, OPM tests and to set up Jobs.
Settings

This mode allows the user to adjust General Settings (Language, Distance Units, Sounds, Auto Off function, Date/Time, Company Name) and displays the OTDR version information.
Job

This mode is available for creating new jobs (setting up a file structure and defining the fiber under test location: Drives, Folders, Jobs, Routes [End Locations], Cables, Test Equipment Location, and Operators).
